The holidays are a time filled with cooking delicious foods, entertaining friends and family, and welcoming guests into our homes. Unfortunately, all of these create a situation that puts extra stress on your home’s plumbing. Avoid holiday plumbing problems by protecting your home against from potential plumbing disasters.
Here are some helpful tips:
- Grease, fats, and cooking oils congeal and can clog your pipes. Avoid a kitchen disaster by waiting for oils to cool and disposing of them in the trash.
- Certain wastes can jam or damage the disposal blades or clog pipes. Avoid putting fruit pits, egg shells, potato peels, carrots, celery, turkey skin, bones, pasta, rice, bones and coffee grounds down your disposal.
- Run your dishwasher when water usage is low.
- Make sure your water heater has had a flush & fill in the last year. This annual maintenance removes any sediment in the tank. When your tank has a lot of sediment, it reduces the amount of usable hot water available to use and makes cold showers a possibility for guests.
